Keyword in Context Tool
Use KWIC examples to understand how a word is used before and after each occurrence.
Keyword in Context, often shortened to KWIC, shows a word together with nearby words from the original text. This makes repeated terms easier to interpret because the same word can have different meanings, roles, or grammatical classifications depending on context.
What KWIC helps explain
- How a repeated word is used across multiple sentences.
- Whether the same word appears with different part-of-speech tags.
- Which phrases commonly surround an important keyword.
- How context changes meaning in essays, articles, news, and research text.
Why context matters
A simple frequency count tells you how many times a word appears. KWIC adds the evidence around that count, helping you inspect real usage instead of looking only at totals.
